Underworlding
A Shadow and Deity Work Mentorship Program
This January,
It’s time to descend.

From its own ashes
A phoenix
First
Must
Burn.”
-Parable of the Talents, Octavia E. Butler (1998)

Real talk: January 1st?
New Year’s Day is a trash day to manifest and set resolutions. Here’s why:
You’re burnt out from the holidays. All that family time takes a toll, and memories tend to rush in from the past and catch you off guard when you least expect them.
It’s Capricorn Season, a time ruled by Saturn. In contrast, Aries is Mars-ruled, and it marks the start of a new zodiacal year with its fearless, go-getter, fire-under-your-butt energy. It’s so much more optimal for manifesting when the Sun is in the sign of its exaltation!
For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s cold, dark, and maybe a wee dreary. When the sun’s out, gun’s out. Meaning: spring and summer are when the seeds we plant can root, sprout, and grow tall. Winter is for slowing down, learning, listening within, books, and brewing tea.
“All these are but dreams and shadows: the shadows that hide the real world from our eyes.”
-The Great God Pan, Arthur Machen (1894)
TLDR: Winter should be for wintering.
For introspection. Reflection. Meditation. And up-leveling our spirituality. We should be journeying into the Underworlds of our lives (and ya know, the actual Underworld because we go hard here).
In other words?
It’s prime for Shadow Work.
Hold up!
Back up, Emmy.
What even is Shadow Work?
Oh, I’ve got you, dude.
Shadow Work is the process of actively uncovering the hidden parts of your psyche.
To gain a deeper understanding of yourself, heal from wounds, and strengthen relationships.
Carl Jung conceived of the shadow self as the "dark side" of the psyche, not inherently bad but often neglected or misunderstood. He defined the collective unconscious with eight (8) different archetypes.
Caroline Myss conceived of four (4) archetypal companions that she posits have been fundamental to our survival in the past and require integration now.
As Myss has said before,
“The word shadow itself suggests a dark, secretive, possibly malevolent countenance...A much more appropriate understanding of the shadow aspects is that which is least familiar to our conscious mind...The shadow becomes hostile only when it is ignored or misunderstood.”
Aside from better self-knowledge, the Benefits of shadow work may also include:
Fewer feelings of blame and shame
Learning why you have big emotional reactions
Shedding light on your strengths and weaknesses
Learning healthy coping skills and how to set boundaries
Improving your personal or professional relationships
Tapping into creativity
Stopping negative self-talk (via WebMD)
And in turn, deity work is about forging a connection with divine beings—whether gods, goddesses, or cosmic forces.
Faith in general can support you in countless ways:
Meaning-Making and Purpose
Social Support Networks
Coping Mechanisms
Hope and Optimism (via Psychology Today)
“Deity work opens the door to an exceptional kind of spiritual partnership, akin to having a mentor from the spiritual realm to guide and empower us. This practice allows us to form meaningful connections with divine beings, ensuring we're never alone on our life's journey.” - Ayame Strothers
This makes deities the perfect allies for engaging in your shadow work.
When I say this...
…I’m primarily thinking of chthonic AKA underworld deities.
In Greek mythology, the khthónios were gods or spirits who inhabited the underworld or existed in or under the earth, and were typically associated with death or fertility. This includes gods like Persephone, Hades, Hypnos, Hecate, Nyx, and Hermes.
Much like your Shadow, they’re often misunderstood and perceived as dangerous. But this comes down to a lack of awareness of how much they can support you.
Yes, when you hear the words “death gods,” it may sound severe, but they have so much to teach us about confronting neglected parts of ourselves, drawing better boundaries, where to soften, and how to genuinely live well.
Speaking from my own experience, I can attest that deity work has helped make me more confident, assertive, communicative, and ambitious.
At the same time, I also feel more present and grateful for where I am and what I’ve already accomplished! I felt the shift, but it’s been such immense growth that those closest to me have all remarked on how much I’ve grown as a result of my commitment to self-work and connecting with the divine.
That’s why I consider it an honor, a privilege, and an act of devotion to the gods to be able to assist others in their deity and shadow explorations.
So, if you’ll let them, the chthonic gods will light your path through the Underworld and take you back home to you, too.
FWIW, I’m not just an enthusiast.
💀 I’m a Certified Death Doula with over a decade of experience offering emotional, spiritual, and practical support to those in transition.
🦇 I’m a devotee of Persephone, Hades, Hecate, and Hermes.
🗝️ I’m a trauma-informed psychic reader who’s been practicing for 18 years. My preferred methods of divination and channeling are through Tarot, the Akashic Records, and Astrology.
📜 A significant aspect of my academic background was in Cultural Anthropology, and I continue to dedicate myself to ongoing self-study. That includes developing personal curricula and completing programs, such as Thesmophoric Magic Melissae Training through Mt. Nysa Mystery School and Katabasis: Devotion and Magic by Angelica Cresci.
🐚 And I’m a seasoned ritualist and a witchcraft and occult educator. From single-session rituals centered around the wheel of the year, deity evocation, and ancient festivals to longer courses like my deep dive into Protective Magick, I’m committed to guiding others through transformation. It is a passion, calling, and sacred duty.

Let’s talk program deets .
Program Structure
Asynchronous coursework and self-reflection materials
In January, learning materials will drop weekly on Fridays. The first month is designed to be foundational. This includes an overview of the chthonic gods, shadow work theories and tools, and information on theurgy, thaumaturgy, and psychic, divinatory development. Come with a deity or two in mind that you already connect with, or use this as an opportunity to see who speaks to you or opts to come through as you go!
In February, the mentorship materials will focus on immersing yourself in the work and deepening your connections with your deity/deity team. This is where we shift from theory to engaging in praxis.
In March, we will focus on integration, sustainability, and preparing for the new astrological year (now this is your prime time to set any resolutions or yearlong intentions!). Also, no urgency here. Any/all signups get lifetime access!
1:1 Support
In January, each participant is entitled to a mini Akashic Records Reading (40-min)
In February, each participant is entitled to a mini Shadow Work Astrology Reading (40-min)
Everyone who joins can also drop questions and reflections in the Discord Community to get feedback from me and fellow cohort members.
Additionally, all signups are eligible to book a 1:1 Mentorship call with me at a 20% discount until December 31, 2026.
Five (5) Curated Rituals
There will be three (3) live rituals channeled, written, and facilitated by me (and one with a guest ceremonial magician).
All live rituals will be scheduled on Wednesday evenings in Central Time and will be recorded for those in different time zones/have conflicts.
I will also craft two (2) rituals for you to perform at your own pace. Since the nature of this experience involves delving into our psychic arenas and, in some cases, entering the Underworld, I wanted to offer a combination of guided rituals for us to learn together, along with opportunities for you to challenge yourself and integrate the learnings at your own speed.
Group Coaching Calls
We will start things off with a kick-off call! This will include introductions, Q&A, a chance to meet fellow cohort members, and an open discussion of the thoughts and feelings people are currently experiencing.
In addition to our kick-off, we will have one live group coaching call in January, one in February, and our final group coaching call in March will also double as our anodos ceremony. All on Wednesday evenings in Central Time, and all coaching calls will be recorded for those in different time zones/have conflicts.
TLDR: Come with a few short and long-term goals, curiosity, an open mind, and a readiness to flex your spiritual muscles. Get ready to grow individually and in community with other chthonic witches. No armchair occultists allowed here!
Is this really for me?
I’d say a big ole YES if…
You’ve had some exposure to witchcraft or occult studies in the past. You’re prepared to both learn and take action.
You’ve been putting off Shadow Work, but now you're ready to dive in. You know when to set goals and when to reevaluate, trusting the process.
You’re seeking a crash course in deity work, specifically with Underworld deities.
You’re struggling to stay consistent and want to deepen your existing knowledge and recommit to your deity practice.
You want to sharpen your divinatory skills and improve your psychic ability.
Why might this be a pass?
I’d say this is a big ole NOPE for you if…
You want to treat this like a replacement for therapy. Shadow Work can be especially confronting, even with the care from the gods. That being said, I am not a licensed therapist, and this is not therapy. I’m here to teach, guide, and provide information and feedback only. This can be a companion on your healing journey, but sometimes the best medication is medication!
You’re new in town (witch town, that is). I recommend my Protective Magick: The Complete Course for a more foundational experience.
You’re trying to bypass spiritually what you can only get through via hard work. This work is challenging and can be humbling. If you see Shadow Work as a cheat code for avoiding accountability, this ain’t for you.
You see deities as your besties or pets. Above all, you need to have respect and a sense of veneration for deities.
Basically, Theurgy > Thaumathurgy.
What’s that? Ya want References?
Sure thing! Here are some glowing testimonials from past clients and students:
“I had a great first time experience into in depth astrology and tarot with Emmy. I was able to ask questions about what I didn't understand and get clarity on what is to come. 10/10 would go again!”
-Marissa
“Emmy was the perfect person for my introduction to all things Akashic. I felt completely at ease, gained a lot of insight, and I'm looking forward to the next one! Highly recommend!”
-Mal
“I've loved having various readings with Emmy. She's been pretty insightful on different situations, including love, relationships, and work. She's always forthright, but still maintains a kind delivery when the message is hard to hear. Her sense of humor also helps!”
-Eliza
“Emmy is such a gifted teacher in so many ways. She always goes so much deeper than I could’ve hoped for into a topic. Her protective magick course is immeasurably more than that topic conveys. She takes all sorts of areas of magic and explains not just protective things you can do within each, but a lot of the foundations of how and why those magics work in the first place. Honestly, it could serve as a 101 for baby witches as well. But so many areas of magical practice are covered, that there’s definitely something new for any already practicing witch too.
This tendency towards teaching spills over into her divinatory practices too. I especially appreciate when there is an astrological component to a reading, she doesn’t just predict, she explains why a certain arrangement indicates a certain thing. For me, at very much a novice level in my astrological understanding, I felt that not only did I get the insights I looked for in booking a reading, but I became more astrologically literate rather than having much of that talk go over my head.
On top of all this, Emmy approaches all her offerings with a healthy dose of humor and fun. You will walk away with whatever you hoped to learn, but you’ll have had a heck of a ride as well! ”
-Karena
“I’ve been attending Emmy’s Protective Magick classes for the past year, and they have expanded my practice so much. Her work is educational, community building, and affirming and supportive of all identities. Discussions are full of warmth and humor, but also visit more serious topics, and practical advice. Inspired by Emmy’s perspectives, I find myself asking questions that deepen my spiritual practice. How do we build a practice that connects the personal, spiritual, and political? How do our identities intersect with our worldview and inform our practice? I also love the collaborative aspect of her classes, especially getting into the “craft” part of witchcraft while working on projects together. As a person who previously kept their spirituality private and guarded, it has been enlightening and freeing to be a part of this group, and feel stronger and safer together.”
-Anne
“I gained so much from Emmy's Protective Magick Course. Her class materials are truly foundational because she teaches history, theory, and practice. It gives you a full scope so you can explore creative ways to work with the concepts in the ways that work best for you. As a neurodivergent witch, I struggled with consistency, which in turn made me feel insecure in my practice. Emmy's teaching style is inclusive and innovative with practical advice without judgement. I felt empowered and much more capable of thinking of unique ways to set myself up for more consistency, or practice in ways that makes more sense for my strengths.
The live calls are an incredible way to connect. Emmy is intuitive and dives deep easily, so it feels like a condensed master class in concepts and practices. The self-led materials plus live calls allow for a great balance for beginners and long-time practitioners alike. She is full of resources and thoughtful questions to help you go deeper into your practice. Emmy leads with a continuous learning mind-set rooted in curiosity and practice. Plus, she is an absolute delight with a warm energy, so the calls and recorded materials feel cozy and relatable. ”
