Hecate (HEK-ə-tee) or Hekate is a goddess in ancient Greek religion and mythology, most often shown holding a pair of torches, a key, or snakes, or accompanied by dogs.
In later periods, she is depicted as three-formed or triple-bodied. She is variously associated with crossroads, night, light, magick, witchcraft, mind-altering substances, and the Moon. Her earliest appearance in literature was in Hesiod's Theogony, dated to the 8th century BCE, as a goddess of great honor with domains in the sky, earth, and sea.
Being most strongly associated with the crossroads, she is a liminal deity who can easily cross from the underworld to the physical world and beyond.
Hekate and I have been walking together for a large chunk of my life, perhaps before I even became aware of her presence. She’s been a steadfast deity, and when I do go to her for guidance, I feel grounded, refreshed, and more capable of crossing the next threshold of my life. So much so, I’ve been offering this reading to those ready to receive her support and step into transformation for the past few years.
